Practice Limitation Rule - Exemption Available
As part of OGLA’s ongoing commitment to growing the sport of lacrosse, we are introducing the High School Coach Outside Club Coaching Exemption.
Rationale & Purpose: Maximizing the growth of lacrosse remains at the forefront of OGLA’s goals. The primary purpose of this interim exemption is to remove current restrictions that are hindering the growth of the sport. By allowing this exemption as we continue our progression toward official OSAA status, we aim to increase coaching opportunities, improve player development, and expand access to qualified coaches, all while maintaining a competitive balance among our member schools.
The Policy: Under this interim exemption, member high school coaches are permitted to coach non-school club teams, provided that no more than five (5) players from their high school program are on the club roster.
Application Requirement: Please note that it is a requirement to apply for an exemption through our official form. This annual documentation is essential so we can effectively track how many coaches are coaching players at both entities (high school and club) and ensure compliance with OGLA's ethical standards. The form must be completed annually by either the participating coach or the respective club director.
You can access and submit the required exemption form here: Exemption Form
Additional Conditions of the Exemption:
Voluntary Participation: Club team participation must be strictly voluntary and cannot be a condition for high school program participation, playing time, or team selection.
Recruiting & Ethics: Coaches may not use their high school position to improperly recruit athletes to the club team.
Compliance: All other OGLA bylaws, eligibility, and codes of conduct remain in effect. Violation of any provision or failure to submit the required form may result in disciplinary action.
Policy Revocation: OGLA reserves the right to amend, suspend, or completely remove this exemption policy at any point at the discretion of the board.
Thank you for your dedication to developing our student-athletes and growing the sport.
